Aqua Equity is an ArcGIS StoryMap developed to complement a presentation and research paper examining the global crisis of water insecurity and its far-reaching social, political, and environmental consequences. The project underscores the critical role of equitable and sustainable water access in maintaining global stability amid rising demand, mismanagement, climate change, and geopolitical tensions.
The StoryMap explores the primary drivers of water stress—including population growth, industrial pollution, and transboundary disputes—while spotlighting the disproportionate impact on vulnerable communities, particularly in the Global South. Case studies such as the Mekong River and the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam reveal how the politicization and exploitation of water resources threaten livelihoods and international relations.
Grounded in international relations frameworks—including realism, liberalism, and green theory—Aqua Equity advocates for collaborative governance, sustainable practices, and legal safeguards against ecological degradation. The project ultimately calls for a global commitment to inclusive, forward-looking water diplomacy as a means to prevent conflict and promote long-term resilience.
